About the Author

I am Kimberly Mullins, the author of a published mystery novel set in 1881 Chicago.

I have a Bachelors Degree in Biology and an MBA in Business. I have been working as a certified Process Safety Engineer at a large chemical company. I have also been a contributing author in a technical book in my field. I have also written several technical papers.

I live in South Texas with my son, husband, and three cats. We do live close to the coast, so hurricanes are a normal part of life here. In 2008 we lost our house in Hurricane Ike and found out I had breast cancer in the same two-week period. 2009 was a struggle to rebuild and beat cancer- we did both successfully!

I find that that challenge made everything else seem easier. So, when I decided to try writing, I didn’t let myself think I couldn’t do it; I just did it. I took a year to figure out how to write a book and used many resources to help me. I have friends and family that were willing to read early drafts and read later versions over and over. I have since written three more in the series since that time. I am hoping to continue past book 10.

I love my books, and I hope so will you.

Synopsis

For newly published author Eliza Sterling, having her first book launch party at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a dream come true. Since her book is a modern-day retelling of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and the Met is hosting a display of rarely seen Dickens’ artifacts at the same time, she chalks it up to a case of good timing.

For publicly disgraced, former best-selling author Lew McDonnell, seeing a debut author having her first book launch party at the Met brings up all sorts of resentments. Especially when the book this lady is promoting just happens to be one of his old manuscripts that she’s clearly plagiarized and claimed for herself.

When heated words are exchanged in front of a display case containing an original copy of Great Expectations, both Lew and Eliza are prepared for a fight. But they aren’t prepared for the room to shake, for the display case to shatter, or for the old book to send them both careening toward a new existence entirely.

When Lew wakes up on the floor of the Charles Dickens museum in London to see Eliza working there as a tour guide, he knows something has gone horribly wrong. It’s the same day and time, but suddenly he’s the best-selling author headlining his own book launch again, and Eliza is serving him drinks and working all hours to make ends meet. And the weirdest thing of all?

Lew is the only one who remembers their former lives.

Synopsis

Rule #1: Don’t fall in love with your best friend.
Tally Kerr broke Rule #1 over a decade ago—a mistake that ended in the worst way possible.

Rule #2: Don’t date an artist.
Tally recently broke Rule #2, and the artist broke up with her. The consequence? She’s stuck curating a three-week exhibit for the jerk, and the only thing worse than dealing with him and his new girlfriend are the pity looks from the other artists.

So, she calls in a favor from her former best friend.

Sam Deschenes didn’t expect to see Tally again. And he knows he’s to blame. So when she says she’s coming to town and needs his help, Sam can’t say no—not even when she asks him to be her pretend boyfriend.

Tally wants nothing more than to forget Arizona, which is why this charade is critical. She’ll replace all her memories with fake ones and prove she never really loved Sam.

As the days tick by, remembering Arizona—and all the reasons she fell for her best friend—come too easily. When their scorching desire incinerates the line between real and fake, will Tally keep up the act or will she break rule number one all over again?

Review

Thalia “Tally” Kerr is a New York-based art curator who just walked into her cheating boyfriend, Charles – an upcoming artist, during his creative art sessions. It was horrifying yet supposedly “releasing” for them. She goes through the stages of grief but learns to accept that things are over.

Unfortunately, she could not sever the ties with him aside from the personal level just yet. Due to pride and work furtherment, Tally still has to curate an exhibit a few upcoming artists, including Charles’, at her home town Arizona. In a last-ditch effort to show Charles that she is so over him and his cheating ways, she cashes in a huge overdue favor from a childhood friend, with whom she severed ties along with leaving Arizona. The favor: to be her fake boyfriend for the exhibition duration and keep things professional – no feelings, just friends. Oh Tally, Tally! How could she forget that once upon a time, Sam Deschenes decimated her heart to smithereens, with pieces still missing from it, and she is back again for more? Oh, what “trouble” Tally puts herself again.

Remembering Arizona is my second book with the author. Basing it on my prior experience, this is going to be a good one. The story is from Sam and Tally’s POV, but mostly, the focus was on the former.

The writing grabs readers from the very start – Chapter 1 to be exact. It is unbelievably shocking, yet Tally pulls out her boss-girl attitude and professionalism that could rival royalty in a crisis. Yes, you get me. I did the jaw-dropping shock and angst immediately upon the first few pages of the book!

Coming into the book, I thought it to be a funny rom-com, which it is. But what caught me off-guard in the story is the unrelenting angst, frustrations, and scorching attraction that stemmed from a loaded past carried the whole book into a great second chance and “justified” ending.

Tally and Sam’s interactions very full-on descriptive feelings and wishes that it was impossible to ignore. The storyline is solid, but their moments together are what I enjoyed the most. They tried their best to be friends but fail whenever they are in each other’s presence. Their minds were overanalyzing “the moments” and tried to keep everything “professional,” but their bodies were contradicting everything and want to jump each other’s bones from when they reconnected again.

I feel awful about what happened to Sam and his family. I understand why he did it, BUT I’m afraid I have to disagree with his decision. What happened was so sad and had a social impact on the Navajo people and culture. I don’t want to give out too much, but basically, it’s capitalism at its worst. No one would wish anyone for this unfortunate event, but he sacrificed so much and inadvertently hurt Tally when he wanted to do otherwise because of his pride. Like in most couple’s misunderstandings – honesty was lacking. He took what he thought would be best without consulting with her. It would not have been awful to have talked to Tally about it versus shutting her out.

After reading all the sights and cultures around Arizona, I want to visit the area and check out Lavander Pits and the Navajo reservation. This book will give readers an escapism feel, perfect for those who could not yet venture out to those places due to travel restrictions or just wanting to #StaySafe indoors.
**The mine scene was a funny and memorable one since everything implodes for Sam and Tally, showing everyone that what they have was fated.

Fragonard’s Progress of Love

In summary, Remembering Arizona is a beautiful read that will bring readers back to a time of young love, childhood hopes, and dreams. It is all about second chances and characters who are risking it all for love and forever. It is a story of steamy magnetic angst and attraction (of Sam and Tally) while moments of reprieve of flashbacks and funny antics of Mee-Maw and Nico, her artist sidekick.

“This is you and me, Tally.”

My lips parted and the rapid firing in my chest boomed.
“Against the world.”

Review

It’s darkest before the dawn. We can’t give up.

Dawn (Dangerous Web Book #3) by Aleatha Romig

Lorna Pierce is a recently rescued victim and is slowly recalling many more details of her abduction, and it sprung up a past that she thought she had buried well.

Reid Murray is her husband and is part of a powerful and influential Chicago organization called the “Sparrows.” Lorna and Reid are tangled in a dangerous world filled with secrets, surprises, and danger. The organization’s leading players have been targets of various attacks that the organization still does not know what the motives are.

I am so excited to finally get answers in Dawn, Book 3, and the Dangerous Web series’ final book – Reid and Lorna’s story. The epic ending will B-L-O-W Y-O-U-R M-I-N-D!

Without giving much away for the book:

1.) Dawn starts where readers left off in Book 2, which ended in a cliffhanger. There is a short prologue of this at the beginning that is a great recap. I would highly recommend readers start from Book 1 to better appreciate and go through the book.

2) Written in multi-characters POV, Dawn provides readers the main characters’ perspectives AND some of the supporting characters’ during the flashbacks that explain the mystery connections as far back as in Book 1. I appreciate this POV since the story gets pretty complicated. If Book 1 is all about the unfortunate event while Book 2 brought more questions and “dark secrets” surfacing, Book 3 is all about the secrets, lies, and “backdoor dealings” being pieced together for readers.

3) Questions get answers with cunning writing and implications. There were moments when I had to re-read a passage or two since I overlooked the “implications.” There were hints that I missed, but I saw them after revisiting a few chapters.

4) Flashbacks were a welcome reprieve and gave great understanding and a better “connection” to the main characters. Readers will get a better feel of the gravity of the situation and how awful some of Lorna’s and her family’s backgrounds. These moments support why her family members turned out the way they did. They either succumbed to their predicament

5) Reasons/justifications for actions past are also discussed, and the people involved will get what they deserve. There were a few “past characters” that I thought I had my feelings sorted out. This book further confirmed those feelings and more to justify why they ended up where they were. I was angry for the “bad people” and cheered aloud (in my head) for the ones that came out “into the light.”

6) I love how the supporting characters (all of them) are integral to the story and helped Lorna and Reid tackle their past, overcome their trauma, dissected the clues then “push” to solve the mystery. I love how the author did it – through science and therapy approaches.

7) The story reveals what went on with Mason and Lorna’s pasts and will “fill-in” many missing events. Readers will finally learn about their family history and their missing sister’s whereabouts. That is what I was looking forward to, aside from the central mystery. There is a bit more gore and “torture” inflicted that may churn the stomach but keep going because it will be worth it.

8) At the end of all this, in the darkest comes the dawn, then everything will be revealed. The story will keep readers “on the edge” of their seats, leading to the end. There were too many things to piece together, tangles to unravel, and secrets to expose that will all explode in a spectacular finish that is Romig’s signature style.

Overall, I love how the author grabs hold of her readers in all of her books. Dawn is no exception. I COULD NOT put the book down and gobbled it all up!

Do not assume and expect a lot of “plot twists.”

The author’s mind is a perplexing one – with many “new revelations,” then the story somehow takes us to the end of this epic trail of mystery and suspense while reinforcing the powerful love between Lorna and Reid.

Being the conclusion of this series, finishing Dawn saddens me – to say goodbye (for now) to the Sparrow characters. It makes me want to read slower to savor the story more but understand that Reid and Lorna need to find their peace and HEA.
I cannot wait to see more from the author again!

When all was said and done, the love we all shared made me believe that light would eventually win.
Dawn would shine from beneath the horizon and cover our world in golden rays of sunlight, if we waited long enough.

Review

“There was a connection unlike anything I’d shared with someone before.”

— Straight Up, Charity Ferrel

Lincoln Callahan is a hardened man because of his past. People set him up to “take the fall” for a crime that was not his. He has paid for those crimes and got his freedom back. Coming out was tough for him, and with nothing on his name by then. Now, he wants a simple life, a new start, and nothing to do with a certain blonde waitress at the Twisted Fox.

Cassidy Lane is a fun-loving lady who was at the wrong place, at the wrong time, PLUS implicated a crime that she DID NOT do. I am not sure how I feel with her being unfortunate that no one seems to believe her innocence OR that people would think she would do such a despicable act.

I enjoyed many aspects of the book, even when I initially wasn’t interested in the story. Even if I want not to like the book, I couldn’t. There were so many things that will get readers hooked.

1) Writing style that hooks.
The POV is in the third person – ominous, and the writing style is easy and relatable. I love the witty banter and flirtatious conversations between Cassidy and Lincoln. They are hilarious together! There is also a strong connection between them that they become more open to sharing their secrets without fear or judgment.
The plot’s build-up is at the right momentum that will keep readers pushing on. Things did not feel “rush” or forced, even if a lot of things were happening around the main characters.

2) Memorable and well-developed characters were a big plus!
The character development is well done. The flashback helped readers understand Cassidy and Lincoln better without overwhelming or negating the main plot. The character traits were realistic, and emotions were genuine. The characters’ complexity grew and matured as the story progressed. Each of them learns to “take charge” and stop being taken for granted by others. All of this helps readers connect to them, given each main character’s ample time to share their thoughts.
Cassidy is a class of her own! She is the number one reason that I kept on reading. I am thankful I did because she is an excellent role model for everyone who has been forsaken by life and everyone. Even when she lost everything – personal and professional, she did not shut herself out or cause her to “crumble.” Instead, Cassidy took another approach on her career path and started rebuilding her confidence at Anchor Ridge, away from her family and friends. A fresh start is a way to go.

3) Unexpected plot twists add to the suspense.
A surprise (or two) comes around, but this time, there is danger in the mix – cover-ups and conspiracies.
Coincidentally, Cassidy’s ominous past intertwines with Lincoln’s and comes to settle “loose-ends.” Being having a hero complex, Lincoln tries his best to protect Cassidy – the point of risking his freedom again.
Both main characters have to look out and stand firm together as they find their redemption, and a second chance, amidst the danger surrounding them.

4) Family is everything.

I love how the book is all about family and friends who love the main characters. The love (and concern) oozes out of the pages beautifully. I felt each confession by all of the members there, and it all ran real, heartfelt, and genuine. Many supporting characters looked out for Lincoln and Cassidy that even with their unfortunate pasts, all of the other characters rallied as needed, no questions asked.

Note: It is important to note that readers do not need to start from the beginning of the series to read this book. Cassidy and Lincoln’s story runs jointly with the other books in the series but from different perspectives. Who knew that all the characters have so much backstory between them to fuel a whole series!

In summary, I recommend Straight Up to readers who are in the trope of second chances, age-gap (not too much, if you ask me), romantic comedy, brooding alpha males, and sassy yet strong heroines.
It is rare for me to connect to a book character, so I was surprised at how much I adore, like, love Cassidy! She could be any reader’s no holds barred, sassy, strong-minded best friend.

Straight Up. No bulls**t. All honesty. Me and him.

Review

Warning: there are a lot of dark secrets in this book. A few of those secrets deal with trauma, violence, past and childhood abuses, drugs, mental health, adult languages, etc. If these are issues for you, I will thread this book carefully.

The saga continues as the Sparrow group finds the group responsible for kidnapping Lorna and Araneae. The story is told from Lorna and Reid’s POV and continues further from Dark (Book 1). Warning now to readers – if you have NOT read Book 1, I will encourage you to start with that; else, it might not be as interesting to you as early as the book’s first chapter.

A few things…

1.) If you are expecting Dark to be like Dusk, I’m here to tell you that it is not the same. There is a lot of internalizing going on than “action.”

Note: Dark is Dusk’s continuation and talks about the aftermath of Lorna and Araneae’s rescue. It would be highly advisable for readers to finish Dusk first to feel the story’s characters better. In Dark, each of the characters has one’s plans laid out – the men are there to start finding out the truth and “fix” things (as expected for the male alphas) while the women are in the position of healing (and then finding the answers to help their partner’s aim).

Readers may find themselves in a bind with going back to the past (as far back as Lorna’s and Reid’s childhood) to find the clues to getting Lorna’s memory back or Reid’s “grounding” himself from going into his “dark state.”

2.) Given the above, readers may find that the story is slower until roughly 60% into the book – I was losing interest before that. I was not sure if it’s because it’s the holiday foods I have been ingesting, but I had to leave the book then come back again with a fresh mind. Readers take heed – it may be harder to get through this book because of the below.

A word of advice: Be patient with Dark. The book invested a lot of time in Lorna and Reid’s flashbacks. Some of these flashbacks were quite traumatic, but most of them are a lot of self-internalization, rationalization, etc., by Lorna. It will help shape the story to understand better how sophisticated (and lethal) the Sparrow’s group is facing. Think about the lengths this mysterious group is willing to go to wreak havoc on the Sparrow world – by taking their partners; they will do it at all cost, even death, to achieve their goal.

Some of the flashbacks got to me, and I take this as a warning for others who might feel they would want to “skim” through that section, do it but do not give up on the book because some of the abuse Lorna went through will shape how she tackles on in retrieving back her memories. I find it critical.

It’s like there’s this space or maybe the opposite, a void, hiding in my subconscious that I’m afraid to face. It’s right there and as much as I think I should acknowledge it, I want to run far away. My sleep has been sh*t. I think it’s because I’m not on guard in sleep and weird sh*t comes to my mind.

— Lorna, Dark

3.) I felt awful for Lorna. She was the “glue” for the group and was “unraveling in the seams” as the story continued. Even with Reid’s help to comfort her, Lorna was losing herself to her “traumatic past.” It tore me apart for her to realize how many memories she lost AND coming back “broken.” Each time she went “down,” she came up more broken, and it placed more questions as to what her “real past” was. She exhibited so much re-trauma by not addressing or talking about her experience in the past. But then again, when she spoke about what happened to someone she thought would understand, she was told to “forget” all about it. Later in the book, she does try to “remember” what happened to her and Araneae but at the cost of reviving other trauma that she thought was lost and forgotten.

“I’m swimming and there’s no shore.”

— Lorna, Dark

4.) After staying some time in Lorna’s headspace, the story goes to the other side – the men’s side, wherein they start looking into a secret group that may or may not be responsible. My brains perked up by then because this is where the story should be. It took a bit more pages, but meeting the “important players” brought more questions (and it did make a lot of sense) that worried the group. They were not privy to the other party’s sensitive information but gave up a few “info” from their end.

5.) If you think Lorna and Reid were steamy in the chemistry department, this book re-enforces this again with some “unforgettable scenes” to help Lorna through a lot of what she was going through. She uses Reid to cope with her trauma and even “dissociate” from her past, which many trauma victims do, even if they want answers.

There are pluses and minuses in the book, but the former wins over since all the patience I had was well worth it. The writing is well-put, and as expected for the author, so I was thrilled. The worst thing a reader can go through is to read through awful writing while trying to motivate oneself to finish the book AND piecing together the mystery. Dark IS NOT that – the “pieces” all came together, but of course, readers will need to read through the next book for the final. FYI – if you do not know – the Dark Web series is three (3) books so expect some new information and some resolution by the end, but it is NOT THE END.

I would recommend readers who enjoy a good mystery, suspense, a side of drama, and steam for Dark. The book deals with more healing, justice, and redemption. It comes heavy and gut-wrenching, then it resolves the trauma to focus on the main focus of the group as a whole – who’s coming for the Sparrows. I welcome how the author took her time in this book (basically the whole book) to raise awareness of a trauma victim’s mental health and the long road to recovery. In this case, thank you to the Sparrow group for instilling “peace” for Lorna. The ending was a scene to remember. I cannot wait for the next book!

“You’re someone. The most important someone.”

Synopsis

From bestselling author, Dr. Rebecca Sharp, comes a hot holiday romcom that’s the perfect blend of naughty and nice…

Holly Jolly hates Christmas—ironic, she knows.
But she can’t turn down the opportunity to create San Francisco’s legendary, life-size gingerbread house. Surrounded by tinseled trees and merry mistletoe, Holly steps into her own nightmare before Christmas. Especially when her boss turns out to be a very sexy Saint Nick.

Saint Nicholsen never expected his new pastry chef to hate his favorite holiday—or to be so alluring. And when one conversation makes it clear there’s more to her story than the gorgeous Grinch is letting on, Saint decides to grant her every missed Christmas wish.
Unfortunately for him, Holly doesn’t trust the holiday that’s only proved disastrous. She’s already taken out Santa, overdosed on eggnog, and almost toppled the tree—and that’s only this year.

But somewhere between presents and tree trimming, the magic of their attraction begins to melt her candy-coated confidence and open her hurt-wrapped heart.
When Christmas Eve rolls around with more than a kiss from her Christmas list, Saint will be her Santa tonight, but come tomorrow, will Holly take the leap and hold onto the magic?

Author’s Note: This grumpy Grinch rom-com is complete with an attempt on Santa’s life, an ornament that’s shaped very inappropriately, and some very steamy scenes of festive frolicking. Proceed with caution.

Review

Holly Jolly is a much sought-after pastry architect** in New York. She has had an interesting career change from a professional to a “pastry chef.” The Fairmont Hotel (San Francisco) enlisted Holly to construct an epic gingerbread house in time for the city’s SantaCon. Upon arrival at the famous hotel with an important job, Holly knew she was in trouble. She tries her best to keep her personal life separate from her professional one as she met the lovely staff and the dashing hotel manager. But the magic of Christmas is stronger and instead, puts her in the most unlikely “coupling”!

**Yep, you heard it right – there is such a thing. It is a niche market that for those who require these specialized services, vie for the best. You can read more about them here.

The only thing magical about Christmas was how easily people got wrapped up in the flashiness of it all. In fact, I’d go so far as to say there was no such thing as the magic of Christmas, only the mirage.

Holly, I’ll Be Your Santa Tonight

Saint Nicholsen is the Fairmont Hotel’s beloved manager who needed Holly’s expertise in building a memorable gingerbread house in his hotel to celebrate SantaCon. The event is a big deal for Saint and his hotel since it is a long-held tradition with tourists and locals coming all-over to experience the festive season and magic at his hotel.

I was giddy with excitement to get a hold of this book because it is a unique one. What is not to love about I’ll Be Your Santa Tonight? There are too many! The list below is just a taste of how fantastic the book is!

1) Laugh-your-head-out character names!

First of all, Holly and Saint’s names paired with their last names bowled me over when I started. Oh (!) – the would-be couple’s portmanteau combinations are endless and can do no wrong! No matter how you do it, it would still fit in the festive season.

My interest piqued further, with the male protagonist, Saint, is always optimistic, jolly one in all the mishaps that would happen to Holly.

Ironically, even her name’s appropriateness to the season, Holly loathes Christmas. Holly’s Grinch-like façade contradicts what she yearns for all these years, to experience the “magic” of this holiday. It wasn’t because her family did not celebrate Christmas, nor the inside jokes she had to endure, but more of the experience during this holiday season that made her want to avoid it like the plague.

2) Charming and well-developed main characters to empathize, and discover.

Holly and Saint have “rocky pasts.” Both try not to forget the trauma that the holiday yield for them at a young age. As the story unravels and they slowly shared their stories, the juxtapositioning of similar and yet opposite experiences is the clincher that will make you reflect and humbled. Two different experiences yield successful people, and however, still missing something until meeting each other.

Individually, Holly is a set of contradictions all rolled into one! She is the:-
a) anti-protagonist yet hero with her craft in promoting the hotel;
b) the anti-Christmas (*shocked!*) Grinch, however, could still make Christmas hilariously enjoyable:
c) broken woman inside but provide so much joy on the outside with her skill/craft.

I love how the author presented the cynical yet beautiful traits that made her resilient to move forward versus have her past affect her (or so she believes). It took a Christmas job to make her see that she is far from or “over” her past.

Holly had trouble seeing how she had the power to change how she takes on her life, but it only had to take a few nutty colleagues and a wonderful, caring man like Saint to get her to see the beauty and magic of Christmas that inspired such a lovely name.

It was easier to live with the certainty of never getting the things I truly wanted.

— Holly, I’ll Be Your Santa Tonight

On the other spectrum, even with a heavenly namesake, Saint had it tough. He has his share of “faults,” as told in the story. The ever-positive hotelier shares his disappointments and heartaches – things that drove him to “revolt” against everyone around him. But his story was unlike Holly’s. He was fortunate enough to get the love and support before it was too late.

3) Intricate and captivating plot and scenes that hook readers from start to finish.

The story is told from a dual POV and is a slow-building one. Holly and Saint’s attraction was evident and sizzling, but the author chose to portray them through “tension from afar” to ensure maximum impact. The light humor gelled well in getting both main characters together organically. From piercing stares to random coffee break visits to Christmas decorating bonding with employees, each chance-encounter between Holly and Saint choreographed seamlessly with their random thoughts and verbal retorts that I chuckled throughout the book.

The steamy parts were hot, out-of-this-world, and “tasteful,” but my favorite parts of the book are the “push-pull banter” between the two main characters. Seeing it unfold and explode at some point makes the scenes so worth it! I enjoyed the character’s sweet and naughty side as even the slight hint of attraction gets turned into a witty comeback.

But it wasn’t all banter and laughter; there were a few emotional times that you would feel like your heart squeezed then ripped out. Holly kept so much guilt and pain within her that it was heartbreaking. She would later share with Saint as she finally fessed up to Saint. When it came to “her secret,” I was blown away (maybe I was too naive, but I did not expect it) by the secret that “broke” Holly. It WAS NOT her fault, and yet, Holly thought otherwise. I’m still reeling as I type this review, and it was wrong on all accounts. Everyone in her past did fail Holly miserably!

4) Beloved yet comedic supporting characters help build up the scenes.

A book’s success lies first on the main characters, but even with a great plot and main characters, if those main characters do not have their supporting characters to push or help them, the book is sure to fall flat for me. The supporting characters in the book are all stellar in their own right!

I felt the love and joy with Noelle while also wanting to give a high-five to Roberto with his “hard-on-the-outside-but-soft-on-the-inside” personae.

Noelle exudes a kid’s wonder yet the feisty side of an adult who believes in everything wonderful and magical the season brings. She “adapts” Holly into her inner circle and helps Holly open herself to the many possibilities of a new Christmas tradition.

5) A great cover to boot!

Even before receiving the book, the blurb provided caught my attention that topped it off with a gorgeous cover! With a catchy title, book cover, and synopsis – this book is a whole package, wrapped up nicely and ready for the holidays.
Fair warning: I am a fan of instragrammable covers!

In summary, I’ll Be Your Santa Tonight is a great feel-good yet makes-you-reflect kind of book! The author understands her audience and delivers. This book is for readers who love rom-coms, who love a Christmas story that initially may look cute but also drills down to the essence of the holidays – family, love, salvation, healing, and forgiveness.

It does not try hard to be loved because it’s easy given the above reasons (and more) but makes you “feel” the characters’ emotions.

The author pulls us into a rollercoaster ride of emotions with unexpected backstories of Holly and Saint. How could readers not pick up this book and enjoy the incredible Christmas magic this holiday season with all the points above?

When you care about something, it’s not just about finding someone who can do it right. Having it done right doesn’t matter. Having it done by the person who cares most does.

Saint, I’ll Be Your Santa Tonight

Synopsis

What happens when the biggest blizzard of the year hits and you’re trapped in a cabin with your best friend’s brother? You take every opportunity to spend time together and make him fall in love with you.

The Best of Us is a best friend’s brother, opposites attract, and snowed-in together standalone romance.

Check out the Love in Isolation series for the other supporting character stories that will surely keep you warm and cozy this season!

Review

Kendall Montgomery is a fun-loving and bubbly best friend and maid of honor of Cami, who needed Kendall’s help to “deck-out” Cami’s family cabin for her honeymoon. Kendall is all game for it and is the perfect candidate for the task since she knows what Cami likes and wants. She did not expect to do it with Ryan, Eli’s best man, and Cami’s older brother, who hates and sees her only as an “entitled” best friend of his sister.

Ryan St James is an emergency doctor and is the best man of Eli, Cami’s husband. He tolerates Kendall for Cami’s sake but finds Kendall like any of the high-maintenance, privileged kids he detested. He chose to live a more modest life (even if he also was born into wealth) and wanted to make a difference in helping others versus partying like his friends.

The Best of Us is an enemies-turned-lovers rom-com that made my belly ached from the feisty and quick-wit banter. It might be a simple story at first, but there are so many layers these two characters showed in a few chapters. Being isolated from the rest of the world in a snowed-in cabin, Kendall and Ryan started shedding their layers was a looked forward thing.

Being isolated from the rest of the world in a snowed-in cabin, Kendall and Ryan started shedding their layers was a looked forward thing. There were so many misconceptions they have between each other that it was surprising that they tolerated each other because of Cami.

Ryan and Kendall’s strained friendship is due to Ryan’s preconceived notion that Kendall is a high-maintenance, shallow person, which is the total opposite! She is far from that notion, and I was happy to see Kendall took a stand when they started talking.

This book is my second encounter to review Kennedy Fox’s books. The first was from an anthology series with a duology.
The dynamic duo always amazes me on how they make simple plotlines and characters complex and thought-provoking paired with a lot of steamy scenes rolled into one. There is a lot since what else can two physically charged individuals with the hots for each other do at a secluded cabin?!?!
Everything in that cabin was hot hot hot that it kept Ryan and Kendall (and me) warm during the snowstorm/quarantine.

Happy to report that I liked how the series is shaping for the series. Kendall and Ryan’s characters have enough depth and layers to make me like them. They make me want to know them more as I realize that both are similar in many ways as they learn further:-
1) They want to be more than their family names.
2) They wanted to be better versions of themselves to the world, and
3) They want to be there for their partners, whoever they ended up to be. Kendall and Ryan are honest characters who avoid hurting people as much as possible.

The plot thickens later in the book when Ryan’s past comes back unexpectedly and out of his control because he is too much of a good guy. This part got things a bit exciting and later required him to “fight” for what he feels is worth the long wait, only after a nudge from a good friend.

A small comment on the Best of Us, I would have appreciated the book more if Kendall and Ryan’s separate lives were dealt with and discussed, like Kendall’s new endeavor or even Ryan’s “issues.” However, I understand that the authors may want to focus on only the main character’s relationship. Some “rushed” scenes glean over parts that I believe would have made the characters more developed, especially Ryan’s end.

**There is a small mention of mental health that may be a trigger for some readers. Take this as a warning.

In summary, if you want to read about emphatic, in-denial characters, slow-build, and well-developed plotlines with a lot of steamy scenes – Best of Us is it! It will make you feel warm all over with the side of humanity with Kendall and Ryan’s big hearts!

I also highly recommend the series since the other supporting characters in the story are as exciting and hilarious as Kendall and Ryan!

Synopsis

She was always the one.
Or so I thought.
Turns out my instincts were dead wrong.

Years ago I was faced with the choice between two women. Both were perfect in opposite ways. One was carefree and against commitment. The other was a woman you’d bring home to mom.

I was young, naïve and stupid. I’m sure you can guess who I chose.

Now, I’m older, wiser and know what the hell I want.

So, when the same two women pop back into my life it’s my chance for a do-over. But they flipped the script. Just like me, they want different things now. Leaving me with one choice—convince the woman I want that she wants me too.

Review

Knox Whelan is a police officer of the Cliffton Heights Police Department who is a sucker for women who “needs saving.” He has wasted a few years for the “wrong girl” that his career became stagnant. He got passed over from a promotion because of his “savior complex” with fixing his ex-girlfriend. After breaking things off with her and coming out bearly surviving, he made sure that he focused on work and friends only. Unknowing to Knox, he would have his second chance when he arrested a past and bumped into another – all in one place.

Kamea works at the country club but is currently on hiatus due to the ongoing renovations until spring. She has a side business that provides good income and some savings on the side. Too bad that someone from her past had other plans and turned her world upside-down. The result was Kamea being:
1. broke,
2. kicked out of her home by said friend‘s friends,
3. ghosted and bailed by the said friend after loaning the money, and worst of all,
4. saved by someone who she blames for all her insecurities.

It has been a while since I was offered a book with two women and a man who did not choose well. I was excited, and the book did not disappoint—the story from the first-person POV narrative – Knox and Kamea. I enjoyed the book’s honesty and grit in Knox, failing himself and having to face his mistakes and try his hardest in “fixing” his life – professionally and personally. But when a promotion is on the line, will Knox’s choice be convincing enough to Kamea to trust him with her heart after choosing the last time differently?

In Knox’s head (and heart), Kamea is the woman who got away. He had been riddled with so many “what-ifs” in the book. I got so invested in his “rules” and analytical ways that – I wanted to smack him and tell him, “YES, DO IT!” Everyone else did too! He chose the wrong girl in the past (boohoo) then make things right instead of lingering in the past! Although if Knox did that, it would have cut the book in half and made him an “underdeveloped character,” –> which is not what this book is all about! Be patient is all I advise.

Kamea remembers Knox well enough that it had a lingering effect on how she sees herself. Knox’s actions finally shattered her confidence. She had a past that I emphasize. It is full of disappointments with men, especially from one man in particular. This defeatist self-worth has been with her for so long that it may be a reason that she hasn’t pushed her small business forward and still look at it as a side business.

Knox and Kamea’s honesty is evident because, halfway through the book, everything was said and laid out. This element is a big plus for the book! It is refreshing because knowing where both main characters stand is what makes up the story, hence the title. There were no flashbacks about what happened. There were some “thought processing,” but instead, each character confessed to the other right there and then. Knox and Kamea told each other the truths with so much conviction and confidence that it made the scenes a lot more compelling.

Getting back to the present, I liked how Kamea “opened her eyes” early to become braver and resilient in the face of her situation. She may owe her friend her gratitude in the past, but her friend’s attitude and treatment of Kamea was inexcusable. Granted, this friend had her reasons and experience, but she should not treat others this way! I was horrified by her friend’s nonchalant attitude while Kamea stood there, panicking and begging out of her situation. She had her chin-up and focus on her business and maybe getting the guy – if she can convince him that they should have a “do-over.” I loved her plan and glad that Knox did see the error of his ways – that Kamea is nothing like his ex-girlfriend. She is further and a lot better for him than he could have hoped!

The fact he’s holding m behind velvet ropes pisses me off. I won’t admit this to him, but I’m pissed at myself, too. I put myself in a position where some guy thinks he can’t be with me because I’m too vulnerable. It’s about time I do what I’m designing on these new shirts – I need to be a girl boss.

— Kamea, The Do-Over

Thank goodness for nosy neighbors/friends! I love how they taunted (with love) and supported (feverishly) Knox while taking in Kamea as part of them. Knox’s friends all lobbied and shook some senses to both characters. I give them all credit for making the story work! They are responsible for Knox “breaking his rules” and Kamea for taking charge to change things that ended with an explosive (!) HEA. My jaw is still at the bottom of my lap even I type this review up.

Now, if only we can get Kamea’s money back…

The Do-Over is all about choices, consequences, growing-up, healing, second chances, and redemption. There is a lot of growing up for all the characters, even the “other woman.” Note that there is no cheating involved and is more for Knox being “pressured” by his friends at that time, which was typical. It is well-written and how the author ended the story has thoughtful. I am now curious to start on the Roof Top Crew series based on this book. I hope you do, too, after you check The Do-Over out!

If I went through all the hell to be here right now, with her, it was all worth it. She’s worth it.

— Knox, The Do-Over

Review

Lorna Pierce, now Reid’s wife, is kidnapped with Sterling’s wife, Araneae. She is the one that keeps both of them sane and positive with regards to waiting for help. She is brave and logical in the face of danger.

Reid Murray is part of the Sparrow clan with a specialty in computers and surveillance. He worked for Sterling Sparrow to secure his “seat” at Sparrow Enterprises after Sterling’s father’s reign. The book mentions Reid and Lorna’s first meeting a few times in the book. Readers can read their first meeting at Danger’s First Kiss – which I highly encouraged, and it is a great read!

Firstly, I have been a big fan of Romig since I read her Web of Sin Trilogy, which hooked me to the Sparrows Web Series. In Dusk, Sterling took charge of the Sparrows clan but in the process exposes his life and anyone around him to more danger. Unfortunately, I should have also finished the other characters’ stories BEFORE diving into Dusk since I was a bit lost with learning about the rest of “his team” and their respective partners. There were a lot of new names and events to be matched. Good thing Romig did a few “flashbacks” in between the present, which enables me to focus on Reid and Lorna and the critical parts in the book.

Thus, I recommend reading the Sparrow Webs series to fully appreciate and ensure that the characters and their backstories do not slow you down. I stopped a bit to reflect and connect what happened to whom.

The story is told from Reid’s and Lorna’s POV with necessary flashbacks to hone in critical objectives to the plot. The story flow is the right balance of uncertainty from Lorna’s side and race to find a rescue plan from Reid’s side.

As I read along, I got into it…really got into it. I remember how much I love Romig’s style of catching readers without them knowing it. Before long, I was half-way through, coiled up in suspense and worry for everyone – Reid planning the rescue and Lorna trying her best to survive with the situation. It was a nerve-wracking experience, but one that ended with a curious ending.

I loved how this book showed the side of Lorna as a brave woman. She is a Sparrow now. She protects and defends them through all the trials and tortures was thrown her way in captivity. She looked fear in the eye and defended her friends and family to the evil that wanted nothing more than to harm them.

There is a more significant, unforeseen threat to the Sparrows from the past. It is from another team member’s history but with the rest of the team’s loved ones at their mercy. There were many twists and heart-shattering moments that I had such an emotional spiral with what happened further with Araneae and Lorna as they try to survive.

I am always on-edge with cliffhangers. Coming into this trilogy, I know this book will get me worked up. I understand that this makes the book a worthy read because Romig gave each character and situation their unique importance. I love and appreciate this even more since I could not connect to Books 4-6 of the series. I recall what Lorna shared with Araneae when she was on the verge of giving up. Lorna’s story gave relief to an all-intense moment for readers. The length provided a fantastic backdrop for the series, and I was more settled to continue with the trilogy.

In summary, I like the book – a lot! I could not put the book down and kept telling myself to finish one more chapter and then another. Before I knew it – it was all over! The story was left me having to wait for the next installment.

Romig’s visuals and characters are as colorful and adventurous as how I remembered them to be. She is a skillful storyteller of suspense and mystery with a hint of danger that kept me on-the-edge-of-my-seat on each page.

“A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes.” ~ Mack David, et all for Cinderella

From New York Times bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes an intriguing and fun prologue to her newest romantic-suspense trilogy, Dangerous Web. DANGER’S FIRST KISS – A modern Cinderella story.

This novella is set in the dangerous world of the Sparrow Webs. You do not need to read Web of Sin, Tangled Web, or Web of Desire to get caught up in this new dark-romance saga, Dangerous Web.

DANGER’S FIRST KISS is the prequel to book one of the DANGEROUS WEB trilogy –> Reid and Lorna’s story

On the surface, the world glitters with all things only money can buy. My thoughts should be on the danger lurking beneath the surface. The money and power come from places and dealings the world pretends don’t exist. I’m here at this debutante ball as a representative of the new Sparrow underworld. The clock is ticking as alliances are formed and enemies eliminated.

There isn’t time to be distracted, and yet I catch a glimpse of the stunning woman across the room.

Surely, she’s untouchable to someone like me. Maybe she’s royalty or the daughter of a dignitary. Yet I’m drawn to her in a way I can’t describe. Her beautiful, seductive smile, bright emerald eyes, and luscious red hair beckon me until I find myself by her side.

Her voice sings to me while her laugh shines sunlight into my dark and dangerous world.
And then the clock strikes midnight and she’s gone.
I want more than that first kiss.
